At Escalante Microschool, we believe in the transformative power of education. While traditional schooling provides a foundation, we aspire to something greater—a truly empowering learning experience for our students.

After over a decade in the public school system, we witnessed firsthand the detrimental effects of large class sizes, increasing behavioral challenges, declining academic standards, and an overemphasis on standardized testing. These shortcomings became unacceptable for our own children, inspiring us to create something better at Escalante.
​
Today's children face a rapidly changing world shaped by artificial intelligence, evolving cultural landscapes, climate change, and complex political and economic forces. To thrive in this environment, they must develop into innovative problem-solvers and capable leaders. Our mission is to equip them with the essential skills and unwavering confidence to confront these challenges head-on, fostering strong problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and adaptability.

The name “Escalante” pays homage to the intrepid explorers, Escalante and Dominguez, who ventured into the Southwest, including a stop in Spanish Fork. Although they didn’t reach their ultimate destination of Monterrey, their expedition was groundbreaking, mapping vast areas of the American West and paving the way for future exploration and trade. We hope our students will draw inspiration from their journey, boldly forging their own unique paths in the world through personalized learning, hands-on experiences, and a spirit of intellectual curiosity.

Real World Learning
At Escalante Microschool, we believe learning comes alive through experience. Our dynamic afternoons are built around Utah Career and Technical Education Pathways (CTE), providing an immersive education that prepares students for real-world challenges and opportunities.
Our school year is structured into six-week units, each exploring interconnected themes across disciplines like social studies, science, art, civics, and essential life skills. These units are designed to cultivate key skills and knowledge in a holistic and engaging way.
Throughout each unit, students participate in hands-on, collaborative activities that foster critical thinking and problem-solving. Our project-based learning approach goes beyond rote memorization, empowering students to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. Each unit culminates in a capstone project—a chance for students to showcase their understanding and skills through presentations, artwork, or innovative solutions to real-world problems. These projects allow students to synthesize their learning, build confidence, and take pride in their accomplishments.
